I've sank way too much time into their early titles, so if they want to branch out on their own and do something 'better', I'm willing to support that. If you want to support the developer, go ahead and buy it. I do worry that this roadmap is going to lead us to having a still-incomplete game come this time next year, but I'm willing to hold out hope. Eugen appears to have a roadmap that they're following that looks promising. Will the game be worth it in the future? I think so, yes. It is simply not worth the price point, because at this time, it is a bare-bones demo. If you're only looking to play the game, you absolutely should not buy it at this point. I think a better marketing team that focused on more honestly and realistically telling us what we were getting on release would have likely saved them from some of the more negative reviews here. They state that an incomplete product wouldn't be what we were getting, but that was absolutely what we got. Their advertising before the release in January did not jive with what they were releasing. The only game mode is capture the flag, so you're limited to game modes where you're fighting over points - which I've never found to be enjoyable, particularly when playing against the AI. The ones we do have are gorgeous, but you're going to find them repetitive very quickly. Maps wise, there's just not a lot of them. The Americans lack M60s, M113s, Humvees, and on, and on. The Soviets lack a majority of the equipment they would have had in 1989: there are no T72s, no T62s, no BMP3s, no BTR-80s, no Mi-35s, no Mi-17s, and no logistics helicopters to speak of. There's no campaign, there's a handful of maps, and currently there are only two 'divisions' with limited equipment to play with. The Elephant: Simply put, there's just not a lot going on here. The really irritating looping noise that vehicles would make on release day is no longer there, so that's good, but you're going to continue to see weird stuff, including poor balancing. To Eugen's credit, they are working hard to fix them. Yes, it is early access, but I really do believe it was released into 'Early Access' way too early.īugs: There's lots of them. Simply put, there's a lot wrong with the game in its current state. ![]() I'm really excited to zerg rush with T62s in the future.įinally the inclusion of a 'Mods' section in the main menu is promising. I suspect at some point, once we get a little bit of every nation, we'll start to see additional mechanized and armored divisions to include reserves utilizing older equipment and armor. The new division system is also very cool. The particle effects, especially, draw real high praise from me. Don't get me wrong, Red Dragon is still absolutely serviceable as a game (and in a lot of ways superior to WARNO in its current form), but it has started to show its age. Having played the Wargame series since inception, it is really easy to see how much we've all been wearing rose tinted sunglasses when playing Red Dragon. This game really does try to put you into 1989, as bare bones as that might be right now, so I can appreciate that. WARNO has a great aesthetic and they've done a pretty good job of nailing down the 1980s synthwave vibe that's really flourished in the past couple of years. I recommend this only if you think it important to support the developer while this game is in extreme early access. Caveat: I've 'recommended' this title, but please read below.
